Public Interest & In-House Section Dinner Series: A discussion with General Counsels and in house attorneys who work with the non-profit sector.

Interested in working in house either as an intern or as attorney in the non-profit sector or working with non-profit entities? Please come hear our esteemed speakers on their career paths to becoming in house attorneys for their companies. This event would be useful for law students interested in apply to work for summer fellowship or internship with these companies, attorneys looking to transition to non-profits or attorneys looking to network with in-house attorneys.

Speakers:

Lakshmi Sarma Ramani - General Counsel - National Association for the Education of Young Children

Lakshmi Sarma Ramani is NAEYC’s Chief Legal Officer. She manages the work of NAEYC’s Office of General Counsel, which provides a full range of services in support of NAEYC’s mission.

As a member of NAEYC's Executive Team, Ramani advises on legal issues arising out of NAEYC's activities and provides practical, ethical and effective legal advice. She leads corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives and advises on legal strategies and their implementation to NAEYC staff, the NAEYC Governing Board, the Council for NAEYC Accreditation and the NAEYC Commission on Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation.

Prior to joining NAEYC, Ms. Ramani served as Senior Attorney-Corporate Services at The Nature Conservancy; Counsel, Spectrum Transactions, at Sprint Nextel; an Associated in the Public Finance and Tax Groups of Tillinghast Licht, LLP; and and Assistant Counsel at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel.

Lakshmi Sarma Ramani earned earned her Juris Doctor from The Beasley School of Law at Temple University.

Nageeb Sumar - Senior Program Office on the Global Policy & Advocacy team - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Nageeb Sumar serves as a Senior Program Officer on the Global Policy & Advocacy team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Washington,D.C.. He has specific responsibilities over the Foundation’s engagement with governments in North America and the Asia-Pacific
region, collaborating to improve policies and resources devoted to global health and development programs. Prior to the foundation, Nageeb worked as an associate at law firms in D.C. focusing on municipal finance and corporate transactions, and preceding law school, worked at Oxfam America on microfinance and market access
issues for women entrepreneurs. Nageeb holds a law degree from McGill Law School.

Rumu Sarkar - General Counsel with Millennium Partners

Rumu Sarkar joined Millennium Partners as General Counsel in November 2013. She is the former General Counsel for the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission and 2004 Overseas Basing Commission.

She also served at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the US Agency for International Development as an attorney on administrative law, ethics, contractor litigation and on project finance programs. At USAID she served as a lead litigator for contractor disputes and had a 100 percent win rate at the US Court of
Federal Claims and at the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals. Also at USAID she led negotiations for a USAID-Eximbank $500 million mixed credit program with Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines that provided project finance for power and telecommunications projects.

Ms. Sarkar is a graduate of the Antioch School of Law (JD) and Cambridge University, Newham College (LLM and Ph.D.).
