Law and Zen: An After Work Meditation to Unwind Your Day

Numerous peer-reviewed academic papers have shown that meditation practice can greatly alleviate stress and anxiety, build positivity, increase creativity, improve focus and efficiency, and control addictions. These benefits are particularly relevant for the legal industry, which is known for having abnormally high mental health and substance abuse issues among its professionals. In this workshop, a lawyer and meditation expert, Deepa Menon, will lead a simple meditation and breathing exercise that participants can follow, learn, and bring to their home or to their workplace. Participants may leave feeling calmer, refreshed, and renewed with positivity.

We anticipate arrivals and networking from 7:00-7:15pm, the program running from 7:15pm-8:00 pm, followed by an open forum for discussion. Refreshments will be provided.

Speaker: Deepa Menon, Art of Living

Deepa Menon is a certified stress management instructor for the Art of Living Foundation.  She has been facilitating programs for professionals and corporations across the country for the past 13 years, and her focus area is happiness solutions based on breathing exercises and meditation. She fills up her free time in a particularly stress-free way - by practicing law out of Eversheds Sutherland, an international law firm in Washington D.C., where she assists big and small companies with employment and employee benefits issues, and with M&A support. When she is not a lawyer or teaching meditation programs, she is a freelance writer and an avid baker whose repertoire includes banana bread and chocolate cake, and more banana bread and chocolate cake.

Art of Living Intro: The Art of Living Foundation is an international educational not-for-profit organization. This free meditation event is being offered as part of the “Violence-Free Stress-Free USA” campaign, a nationwide initiative to help recharge Americans and America through meditation and individual empowerment. The Foundation’s programs have thus far benefited more than 300 million persons across 154 countries, including numerous corporations and more than 11,000 persons in the D.C. metro region.
